Four Year Program
The BSND is a four-year program consisting of general education and professional subjects. The nutrition and dietetics education in the undergraduate level is designed to adequately equip the students with the fundamental knowledge, attitudes and skills in foods, nutrition, dietetics, management, and allied fields in order to prepare them for entry level professional responsibilities in education and communication, food and nutrition research, clinical dietetics, food service industries, wellness program and public health community nutrition.

In accordance with the vision-mission of the Institute of Medicine in addressing the need for a more comprehensive and remarkable health care system, the Board of Trustees of the Far Eastern University – Dr. Nicanor Reyes Medical Foundation in July 2012, passed a resolution to established the School of Nutrition and Dietetics that would meet the standards of profession and educational accreditation. On May 6, 2013, the permit to operate was granted by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) for a four – year course leading to the degree of Bachelor of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics (BSND). Full government recognition was granted on April 20, 2016. Dr. Marites V. Singh was appointed as Acting Director of the School of Nutrition and Dietetics on July 1, 2012 up to June 30, 2013, and appointed as Dean, School of Nutrition and Dietetics on July 1, 2013 up to present.

Course Description:

The Nutrition & Dietetics course is a four-year program consisting of general education subjects and professional courses in food, clinical dietetics, nutrition sciences, biochemistry, anatomy & physiology, microbiology, public health/community nutrition, food service system, research, social sciences, management and communication.

Skills and Competencies

  • A nutritionist-dietitian is involved in identifying and treating health ailments. Knowledge of prevention at every stage of growth and development as well as background in metabolism and biochemistry of nutrients and food components is critical.
  • He/She should be able to plan nutrition programs and supervise the preparation and serving of meals, and,
  • He/She must have an interest in nutrition and the welfare of people. He/She must be sympathetic and considerate about alternative lifestyles and must have diplomacy and perseverance when persuading people to change eating habits.
